CHEMICAL

Real-time Performance Management (RtPM) helps specialty chemicals manufacturers manage and improve product quality, minimize production deviations and maximize yield, and implement condition-based maintenance programs.

For applications of RtPM for chemical are shown below.

Balanced Scorecards

Organizations are increasingly using balanced scorecards to define key operational objectives and translate them into measures, targets and initiatives that drive the company's strategy. RtPM captures and displays operations data in real-time, allowing strategic decisions to be made continually, instead of at end-of-cycle strategy review sessions, which can be the difference between profit and loss.

Batch Quality Monitoring

RtPM Batch is used to track and record the real-time composition of batch products including intermediate batch processes. Batch-to-batch comparisons are made by overlaying trends of the same parameter from different batches to troubleshoot issues such as why the quality of one batch is "good" while the other is "unacceptable." A coated paper manufacturer used RtPM Batch to imporve the manufacturing process in the coating kitchen. In another example a chemicals manufacturer achieved a 40 % reduction in cycle time by using RtPM Batch to collect and analyze batch phases and operations. Companies are using enterprise wide RtPM systems to do corporate-wide benchmarking of batch processes identifying opportunities to reduce costs and improve quality.

Inventory Management

RtPM enables gathering of accurate in-process inventory data for accurate loss measurement, customs and excise tax calculations, end-of-shift or daily accounting, etc. Data can be viewed as quantity, mass or volume. A chemical plant purchasing manager was tracking a critical raw material usage by telephoning operations personnel to get up-to-date tank levels. An RtPM trend of the tank level was easily installed on the manager's desktop to give him inventory levels in real-time.

Manufacturing Intelligence Data

RtPM provides fast and easy access to key fixed and variable cost data through a common user interface. It also provides the capability to perform uniform analyses across disparate data sources such as accounts information, unit production rates, as well as raw materials and product pricing. Typical manufacturing intelligence data sources include SAP, Maximo, ISP and Oracle Financials.
